Before and after arrival contact with Trevor and Margaret was great. Due to traffic jams we were very late, but we informed them when stuck in traffic and it was not a problem at all. They are really friendly and relaxed people who will help you whenever needed or wanted. On arrival we got a welcome present and during our stay we got some great tips in and around Vire (playground near the river, cascades, but also the coastal road from Granville to Avranches) which we really appreciated. When one of us got ill Trevor and Margaret asked if they could help in any way (fortunately we didn't need help, but just asking was much appreciated!).
The house is beautifully renovated, the photos say it all. The top floor has loads of windows to open and we always had fresh bedrooms, even after a hot day, which was really nice. There's another (big) holiday house and Trevor and Margarets house on the premises. The second half of the holiday this big house was occupied too, but this was fine as you have your own terrace and lawn anyway.
We have enjoyed the tranquility of the place, especially in the mornings. On clear nights stars can be recognized easily as it's really dark. There are many birds around, like wagtails and swallows.
Roullours is a small village without any shops. Vire is a nice town with some good shops, including 2 shops specialized in childrens clothing and 1 childrens shoe shop. There are several supermarkets (Intermarché, e.Leclerc, LiDL, Carrefour) as well. Should you arrive on a Saturday night or Sunday there won't be any shops open until Monday morning, besides the Coccinelle corner shop in the centre of Vire (only Sunday morning).
The only downside we can think of was the wifi, it was only in a part of the house available and very slow. If wifi is important to you for downloading bicycle routes or finding restaurants which serve food for certain diets etc. it's best to prepare yourself well before your holiday and / or ask whether it has been improved. Trevor said he will fix this later on, so perhaps this has already been done.
All in all we would definitely recommend La Boulangerie and this part of Normandy. If you love nature, cycling, history and hospitality, you will have a great holiday here!
