This is a great location for exploring Connemara and the West. Only about 30 minutes from Galway, the place is located just outside the village of Oughterard, which is on scenic Lough Corrib, probably the top fishing spot in Ireland. The town is about a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk from the property, which is in a secluded, quiet area. The town has a number of places to eat as well as some smaller supermarkets, etc.
From here, you are only about one to one and half hours by car from all sorts of great places in counties Galway, Clare, and Mayo. There are tons of things to see and do in this wider area and lots of really good restaurants.
The house is well equipped - it has probably the best kitchen we've experienced in any AirBnB - large, with full refrigerator, freezer, dish washer, stove, oven, etc. It even has 2 toasters! There is also a washing machine and dryer for cleaning your clothes.
There are two big bedrooms with en-suite facilities (great for sharing with family or friends), as well as a couple of other bedrooms with a shared bathroom. Nice dining area and a comfortable lounge with a TV, DVD player, fireplace and recliner sofa and loveseat. Powerful central heating, so even though it got cold outside, we were able to stay warm.
My only real complaint is that there is currently no WiFi. The house is in an area with limited mobile coverage, so getting data via my phone was a bit spotty. If you really want to unplug and relax, maybe that is a good thing!
Our host Nellie and her husband were at the house to meet us and make sure we got settled in. Check out was a breeze.
This is a great location for a large family, or a couple of families traveling together to explore the West of Ireland.
