A stylishly renovated, spacious, semi-detached house in quiet street in the suburb of Lower Gardens, in close proximity to Cape Town's vibrant CBD. The home has internal courtyard with a vertical herb garden and also boasts a large rooftop deck, with views of magestic Table Mountain, Lion's Head and the Cape Town city skyline. The house is located in the trendy East City Precinct, walking distance from trendy coffee shops, restaurants, public transport and shopping centre.

Lo spazio
The home is a semi-detached heritage building which boasts high ceilings, the original Oregon pine floors and the authentic exposed brick walls from when the house was constructed. It has been stylishly renovated, with selective contemporary features and decorations, resulting in a more trendy ‘industrial’ design, without losing its original characteristics and aesthetic appeal.

The living area comprises of an open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen, all located on the ground floor. The lounge can comfortably seat 4-5 people and is equipped with a gas fireplace for the cold wintry months.

For your convenience I offer an Honesty Bar, stocked with a selection of beers, wines and spirits for your enjoyment during your stay. Please ensure that you replace what you drink, so the guests after you can also benefit from the service. For those of you that are feeling inspired and adventurous, there is also equipment, utensils, glasses and recipe books to make cocktails.

The kitchen is oriented around a central granite counter top and oak dining room table (seats 6). The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge & freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, Nespresso machine and a Nutribullet blender (perfect for making a morning smoothie).

Coming from a hospitality background, I am a bit of a foodie and love to cook. In the kitchen you will find Le Creuset and Jamie Oliver cookware, a large selection of chef’s knives and all the other cooking equipment you may need. There is also a great assortment of decorative serving bowls and plates to cater for any feast you may prepare. For culinary inspiration, there is a selection of awesome cook books.

The large Balinese bookcase is home to my library. My collection of books is precious to me and while I encourage you to immerse yourself in their pages, please be certain to leave them behind when you depart. There is an I Pod docking station the located in the book case.

The bedroom and walk-in dressing room are located in two separate open plan c-shaped ‘modules’ that are located off a single corridor. Sliding doors, with aluminum stackable shatters opening out onto the internal courtyard, run the length of the corridor ensuring the space is light and airy.

The bedroom boasts a queen sized ‘5 star hospitality grade’ mattress. High quality cotton linen and duck- down pillows and duvet are provided.

The bathroom, located at the end of the corridor has an open plan walk-in shower and bath module. The double wash basins sit on top of a raw concrete vanity, with extensive storage, including drawers for your dirty laundry. Soft and fluffy bath sheet sized towels are provided.

A secluded and sheltered internal courtyard has a lush vertical garden, with an assortment of herbs and succulent plants. Please feel free to use the fresh herbs in your cooking and meals. There are also 2 chairs and small table, where one can enjoy breakfast or a morning coffee. Tucked away for privacy there is also an outdoor hot & cold water shower.

The mezzanine level accessed by a steel spiral staircase is home to a ‘study ‘area with a glass topped desk (should guests need to work) as well as a lounge and ‘TV room’. There is a flat screen TV, connected to DSTV (cable/satellite) as well as a DVD player with a small selection of DVDs. The couch can be converted into a sleeper couch.

There is also a second toilet and laundry equipped with two deep sinks and a washing machine located on the mezzanine.

From the mezzanine level you can access a large Ballau wood rooftop deck with magnificent views of Table Mountain, Lions Head and the Cape Town skyline. There are two lounging deckchairs and cushions, a daybed and an umbrella provided should you choose to rather suntan from home. A newly acquired Weber gas barbecue is provided as well as a large table and benches to allow you to eat your meals outdoors while enjoy the spectacular views. There is a second set flight of stairs leading up to the rooftop deck from the internal courtyard.

Should yoga and meditation be your thing, there are two yoga matts located upstairs on the mezzanine level for your use. There is nothing like a morning yoga session looking up at the majestic Table Mountain, who some say “she is the mother chakra of the world.”

The home is secured with an alarm linked to armed response team, and has steel security sliding shutters over the sliding glass doors.

My entire home is for the exclusive use of guests for the duration of your stay. Guests will be given keys and an alarm remote to gain access and to ensure the home is safely secured.

Città del Capo, Western Cape, Sudafrica

The suburb of Lower Gardens is located on the periphery of the Cape Town CBD in the East City Precinct, a node that has become known as the ‘Fringe’. This part of the city was integral to Cape Town’s winning bid as, The Design Capital of the World 2014.

This design and innovation lead initiative has given rise to the establishment of entrepreneurial ‘startups’, trendy coffee shops, restaurants & cafes, bookshops and bars, all catering to the young professionals and creative people living and working in the area. It is certainly worth stepping out the front door and strolling down Harrington and Buitenkant Streets. Also in the immediate vicinity is Dunkley Square.

The suburb is primarily residential and relatively quiet, however within a couple blocks you are in the heart of the city. Adderley Street, which runs from the Company Garden’s down to The Cape Town International Convention Centre is Cape Town CBD’s Main Road. Built in the 1860’s, you can walk down the street you can follow the evolution of the city as the architecture changes from historical heritage buildings to modern skyscrapers.

Nowhere in the city is Cape Town’s urban culture better experienced than immersing yourself in Kloof and Bree Streets lifestyle, both in walking distance of your front door. Both streets boast an eclectic blend of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, fashionable clothing stores, historical buildings and contemporary renovated establishments. Here you are most likely to 'hang out' with local Capetonians, instead of being surrounded by tourist.

Bree Street specifically has become somewhat of the gastronomic capital of the city, with the majority of Cape Town’s newest and trendiest restaurant situated here. Every first Thursday of each month, Bree Street comes alive, from early evening until well into the night, as the road becomes primarily pedestrianized and the shops, galleries, restaurants and bars overflow into the street, creating vibrant atmosphere –try not to miss out on this!

Cape Town has developed a well-deserved reputation as one of the ‘foodie’ capitals of the world. The high culinary standards and value will be a pleasant surprise for international visitors. A large assortment of Cape Town’s best restaurants and bars are within minutes of your front door. I have listed many of my favourite spots in my Guidebook. I would recommend trying to book well in advance.

The neighbouring suburb of Woodstock is also seeing massive rejuvenation, with extensive commercial and residential development. The Saturday morning market at the Old Biscuit Mill is a favourite among Capetonians. Woodstock has become home to many design focused furniture, décor and fashion stores and it’s really worth checking out The Woodstock Exchange and The Woodstock Foundry.

South Africa’s most visited tourist attraction, the V&A Waterfront is situated on a working commercial harbour. The precinct boasts premier shopping malls, the Cape Town Aquarium, museums, art galleries and restaurants and is reachable within 10 minutes by car. The Saturday morning Oranjezicht City Farm Market is a world class experience and perfect opportunity to stock up on organic produce.

Geographically you’re located on the slopes of the magestic Table Mountain, literally minutes from hiking trails and spectacular views of the entire Peninsular. You can summit her either via the cable car, or hiking trails. If you fairly active I would highly recommend hiking up the Platteklip Gorge and catching the cable car down. Either way I would encourage you to buy your cable car tickets online, to avoid queues.

It also is possible to climb up Lion’s Head where you can experience magnificent 360 degree view of the City. Capetonians routinely summit Lion’s Head during a full moon, which if you lucky enough to be here is a memorable experience. Signal Hill, where they fire the Noon Gun, is great for a sunset picnic. I would suggest catching an Uber, parking is always a nightmare.

There is a ‘Camelback’ and head torch are provided in the home to ensure you have sufficient water and light on your adventure. Please ensure you take a cell phone and a warm jacket in case of emergencies or a quick change in the weather, while you are on the mountain.

A holiday in Cape Town wouldn’t be complete without soaking up some rays on some of the most pristine beaches in the world. Advantageously, you are centrally located; a mere 10 minute drive over the mountains to the white sandy Blue Flag beaches that Cape Town is famous for.

My personal favourites are Clifton 1st and 2nd beaches, Camps Bay and my childhood beach, Llandudno. If you want little more privacy try out Beta and Bali beaches. If the cold Atlantic isn’t your thing, you could head over to the Indian Ocean side of the peninsula. Muizenberg is the most popular beach, and is also an ideal place to learn how to surf. While out that way Kalk Bay with its antique and ‘hippie’ store is also worth a visit. Great fish and chips!

Please feel free to use the umbrellas, beach chairs, beach bag, cooler boxes and beach towels/sarongs provided.

The Company Gardens, South Africa’s Parliament, the Castle of Good Hope, the Great Synagogue, the Slave Museum, the National Art Gallery, the Jewish Museum, the District Six Museums, the Planetarium and St. Georges Cathedral are all in walking distance of the house.

Virgin Active premier health club and gym is 2 streets away and will allow ‘guest visitors ‘at a fee.
