Interazione con gli ospiti
How much interaction we have is up to you. If you want privacy, we respect that. If you want to chat over a cup of coffee or tea that's fine too.
We are happy to point out great places to eat nearby, or provide tourist advice for other parts of California. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and my husband is from Napa. We've traveled extensively in California, the US, Europe, the Pacific Islands, China and South Africa. We know what we like when we travel, and we try to provide it for our guests.
Altre cose da evidenziare
We want you to feel secure. We (not the bank) own our home so there is no risk your reservation will be canceled due to foreclosure or landlord issues. For your safety, every room in our home has a new, functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detector. Your room comes with a guest book that contains emergency information, including an evacuation plan. We have working fire extinguishers and a fire hydrant on our property. We are both trained in CPR and first aid. Our pool and pond are separately fenced, and there arevemergency instructions posted.
Check-in time is normally 3 pm. If you need an earlier check in, please ask. We most likely can accommodate you, though your room may not be ready for you until after 12 noon, if we've had guests the night before. Check out is 11 am, but again, later check out may be available. You just need to be out in time for us to clean the room and change the linens if we have another guest arriving. In any case, you are welcome to leave your bags before your check in or after your check out.
We have two friendly medium sized dogs that are part of our family and live In our house. The dogs have a dog door out to their separate run, through our laundry room,so you don't need to worry about dog mess if you use our yard. We have a nice walk-through wooden pet gate in our entry hall to keep the dogs from getting out or under foot while guests are arming and departing. We also have walk-through pet gates on each of the bedroom doors upstairs to keep our pets out of your room if you want to leave your bedroom door open. The gates are easy to use. Our animals are well behaved in the house, though they get excited for a minute or two when meeting new people (and when I come home). My border collie mix (Sophie) will protect you from wolves (she's very good at it -- we've never seen one around the house), and my bassett hound mix (Colin) will sit next to you if you let him.
We accept cash, credit cards, or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for any additional charges. If you use (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), please designate the payment for friends and family rather than goods and services so that I am not charged a fee that I will have to recover from you. There is an additional 3% charge for credit cards to cover bank fees.
We are here to may your stay as comfortable as possible. Please see our blog at (URL HIDDEN) for lots more information about us, our home, and Sacramento. If you have any concerns, please let us know so that we can help.
No smoking in the house. You may smoke outside on the deck or patio. Please put your ashes and cigarette butts in the ashtray provided.
If we have other guests staying with us, we will let you know when you check in. If so, please be respectful of them, particularly if you have a very late arrival or very early departure.
No need to make the bed when you leave. We are going to wash the sheets as soon as you depart and it is easier for us to strip the bed if you don't make it.
If other guests are staying, please be courteous about sharing the bathroom. If you'd like to leave your toiletries in the bathroom, you are welcome to do so in one of the drawers in the bathroom vanity.
Please keep the front door closed at all times (except when you are going through it), so the dogs don't get out to the street. Please do not feed the dogs table scraps. They don't beg during meals and we hope to keep it that way. If you want to give them one treat, there is a jar of dog cookies on top of the file cabinet in the family room. Tell the dogs to sit when you give them a treat. They will. Sophie, our Border Collie mix is always gentle taking treats, but you have to remind Colin to be "Gentle."
Please do not leave wet items on the wood floors, furniture or bed covers. It ruins them. Coasters are provided for your glasses and there are hooks in your room to hang wet things on. You are also welcome to hang stuff on our laundry line in the side yard.
Please leave your breakfast dishes in the sink or dishwasher. If you cook, please clean up after yourself. If you need pots, pans, or other cooking stuff, please ask. We probably have it (including unusual stuff like a croissant cutter or a spaetzle grate). If you use them, please wash pots, pans, and chef knives by hand and do not put them in the dishwasher. It is too harsh for those items. Dishes, glasses, and flat wear are fine to go in the dishwasher.
Please remember to leave your room key! There is a $25 charge for keys that are not returned. Please lock the front door when you leave.

I believe life is short, and we should all try to be kind to one another and leave the world better (or at least no worse) than we found it. I'm a wife, a mom, a sister, a licensed civil engineer, a retired manager, a community volunteer (ccurrently a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster children and formerly a Girl Scout Leader and volunteer for nine years), a mentor, and a friend. My hobbies include making things (quilts, stained glass windows, dolls, and I tried blowing glass once), being outdoors (kayaking, camping, white water rafting), photography, baking, and reading. I like theater, music, and movies. I'm a native Californian and have lived here my entire life.
My husband of thirty plus years and your cohost, Ken, is one of the nicest people I know. He is also an engineer (environmental) and all around handy person. He is a retired Assistant Executive Officer for the Sacramento Regional Water Quality Control Board. He knows something about almost everything. He likes music, reading (science fiction, mostly), and building stuff.
We're empty nesters. We have two wonderful kids, of whom we are very proud. With our professional interest in environmental issues, it may come as no surprise that we recycle, upcycle, compost, and use minimal pesticides. We try to practice water conservation, and we reuse our greywater (your shower water irrigates our flower beds). We also have a solar heater for our pool and photovoltaic array on our roof to reduce our dependence on the "grid."
We love to travel. Most memorable adventures include seeing sea turtles hatching on the beach in Mexico; having humpback whales surround our boat for about an hour in Hawaii; watching a lion hunt a gazelle in Botswana; rappelling into a cave in New Zealand to zip line through a pitch black cavern (and then free-climbing up two small waterfalls to get back out); having a police escort on about 12 miles of closed freeway to the closing ceremonies of a conference at the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China; and taking a series of gondolas over Mt. Blanc to get from France to Italy (with our young kids in tow). I've traveled most of the US and parts of western Europe. I'd like to sail around the Greek Islands.
We enjoy hosting people and learning about other places. In Ireland, it seems that most people have a bnb in their homes. When I heard about Airbnb, I thought "What a great idea!"
