The History of the street, Via Quattro Fontane
The intersection of the ancient Via Pia (now Via del Quirinale - Via XX Settembre) and Via Felice (the path from the Spanish Steps leading to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, now Via Sistina - Via Quattro Fontane - via A.Depretis) is characterized by the presence, at the four corners, Quattro Fontane, that give the name at the intersection, the eponymous street, and the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane Francesco Borromini built between 1638 and 1663. Features a unique Rome, from the intersection you can see, in the distance, the obelisks of Santa Maria Maggiore (south-east), Trinita dei Monti (north-west) and the Quirinale (south-west), as well as Michelangelo's inner facade Porta Pia (north-east).
The Four Fountains, travertine, were built between 1588 and 1593, taking advantage of the rectangular niches of different sizes, specially obtained in the corners of the buildings.
The subjects, all different, but they are grouped in pairs similar: two bearded male figures, allegories of the Tiber and Arno, who face two female respectively, representing Diana and Juno.
The first two symbolize Rome and Florence, while those of Diana and Juno are respectively symbol of loyalty and Fortress.
All figures are lying on their sides, with water that is poured into small basins semicircular. Tiber and Juno have a rich background decorated (in the first group is obviously present the wolf), while Arno is much smaller, with a simple relief of vegetation from which sprouts a lion, and Diana none at all, but is equipped with some elements characteristic of the insignia of Pope Sixtus V (star and a lion's head carved on the tub and Trimonzio on which the figure rests her elbow).
PALAZZO BARBERINI
The collection of Palazzo Barberini, Via Quattro Fontane 13, is particularly rich in masterpieces of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The collection includes paintings from the twelfth century, as the image of the Virgin and Christ from Santa Maria in Campo Marzio, continues with some crosses of the XIII century, and paintings of the Giotto school.
Among the works of the fifteenth century, stands the wonderful painting by Filippo Lippi, the Madonna Enthroned with Bambino, dated 1437, from Corneto Tarquinia; it also represented a panorama of Lazio in the same period.
Most consistent core of the paintings of the sixteenth century, including the Fornarina, the famous portrait that Raphael did and beloved works of Andrea del Sarto, Beccafumi, Sodoma, Bronzino, Lotto, Tintoretto, Titian, El Greek, to get to end of the '500 with the wonderful Judith beheading Holofernes by Caravaggio.
The seventeenth century is represented by works by Reni, Domenichino, Guercino, Lanfranco, Bernini, Poussin, Pietro da Cortona and Gaulli. The section of the works of the seventeenth century is in perfect harmony with the decoration and the architecture of the building, offering a rich testimony to the completeness and consistency of some of the most fruitful of culture and art.
The painting of the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries with works by, among others, by Mattia Preti, Canaletto, Batoni, Pannini, the Lemme Collection and a rare group of French paintings of the same period, from the collection of the Duke of Cervinara, are shown in the new rooms on the second floor of the building.

Maria and Roberto were great right from get go... Informing us of the best way to get from the airport to their place, meeting us when we got there, showing us around their beautiful place, and answering a bunch of questions from first time Italy tourists! The place is centrally located, within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, Trevi fountain, Colosseum, public transport etc. The house is also nice for a group of 3-4 people - the living room area and kitchen are slightly snug, but the bedrooms and the bathroom are vintage and spacious!!
