A Classic desert home in the cactus forest and wide open space. Near town but far enough to still stargaze. High on a bluff over Sweetwater wash, this secluded place at the end of the road, has wonderful city lights views and is 15 min. drive to a streetcar. Wildlife abounds. Room to roam on property and Sweetwater Nature Preserve which is also a mountain bike mecca. Close to Tucson attractions such as the Desert Museum and Old Tucson, this ranch home has two bedrooms and two baths

The house is an artist haven, creativity flows! Outdoor, shaded studio. Beautiful spaces to walk on property, in wash and on Sweetwater Biological Reserve with miles of maintained trails. Golf courses near by. Old Tucson, the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and Saguaro National Monument also close.
A path through the property takes you to a lookout to watch the Catalina's turn vermillion at sunset. The Master BR sunrise never disappoints. Plenty of space for a family or a large group, and plenty of activities focused on city and nature.
The house is fully set up for comfort. Master has a queen and twin/ day bed. Second room has two double beds. Two couches and lots of room around house to rearrange beds. Since the neighborhood is so quiet, some guests have chosen to have a bed placed outside on the porch and sleep "plein aire". (upcharge, advance notice required)

Full access to the house and property. Studio Access and use is as scheduled by Guest. Imagine a vacation where you bring home mementos created by you instead of digital photos. Sweetwater Outpost offers an attached studio environment for you to create whatever you fancy. If crafts are your field, make a walking stick or staff. If you would like bicycles available, please ask.
High season rates are January to April.

I don't hang out, you have it all on your own. We can meet and share our insights of the area so you experience it as a local, instead of a tourist. Many folks just like to enjoy the "desert". If Art is your desire, materials can be designated and waiting for your use. (see Guest Access). If you would like to schedule a workshop or have a someone to spend time with you, this can be arranged. If yoga, body work, cranio-sacral healing arts, dental work or holistic health care is something you care to explore, a local center of the healing arts has many class and treatment options. Medicine Wheel Dental and Wellness Center is close by and offers many modalities of treatment in a professional and comfortable setting. (URL HIDDEN) Please check schedules and make reservations on your own.

It is extremely calm out here. I love that I have access to the city and what it has to offer, as well as the famous attractions. But when I want peace and quiet, I just stay here. Old Tucson & the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum are just over Gates Pass. World class Mountain biking on the very close Sweetwater Preserve.

Public transportation options are limited, the nearest bus stop is on Silverbell Road, about 2 miles, the nearest store is a 5 minute drive. Downtown, via Cmo de Oeste, Speedway, Anklam is about 17 minutes. You can park at the Mercado on Avenida del Convento at Congress and ride the streetcar through downtown, the University of Arizona and to the UMC Medical Center. If you want to ride horses, White Stallion stables is 25 minutes away. Mountain biking starts in the driveway with good rides in any direction. Most prefer Sweetwater Preserve, a 703 Acre, county maintained biological reserve with miles of spectacular single track trails. We can have mountain bikes ready for you if you ask. $99/day delivered.

The house is surrounded by saguaros and jojoba bushes. If it is the right time of year you can harvest the bounty of the desert. In June, the saguaro fruit is ripening and ready. Jojoba beans are dry to harvest in August. If there in February, the first buds from the Staghorn Cholla are out and can be added to your salad. 11 times the calcium of milk! If you're the type of person that looks at how clean the window is rather than the spectacular view, this is not the place for you.

Treat it like you own it, but don't worry about the laundry or trash, we will take care of that. Enjoy your time, and please don't worry about making the beds. No smoking inside, please. Outside is ok. Small parties OK, but it is a quiet neighborhood. The house is safe for children, but the wild desert can be dangerous to everyone, I expect most people know that: Hiking staffs are available, useful in most situations.

The place is very western, casual, funky house but fully functional. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. It is remote if you don't want to drive a lot. We would come back.

We spent a week at Sweetwater Outpost. It’s a rustic house down a long dirt road. The space worked well for our family with a queen bed in one room and 2 double beds in the other, plus two separate bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable and the sunrise from the master rooms was beautiful. Bruce met us to guide us to the house (which could not be found on GPS). He greeted us with a bottle of wine and muffins. The Sweetwater Nature Preserve is just a 15 minute walk away and Saguaro National Park West is just 30 minutes away. We did have some concerns. The place was dusty and needed better cleaning of sinks, toilets, windows, and the coffee pot (it had grounds from the last guest). During a heavy rain, there was a leak through the ceiling in a corner of the master bedroom. The shower in the hall bathroom leaked through the wall onto the floor under the sink. The door to the extra bedroom stuck several times, making it difficult to exit the room. The refrigerator froze our food (even after adjustment). In order to get hot water, we had to run the sinks and showers for over a minute (which in fairness was posted on our shower door). The biggest disappointment was the hot tub. It was listed as an amenity (with pictures of it on the website and other guests reporting use of it). We were told it was broken and not one of the amenities.

Risposta di Mary & Bruce:
Ouch! Stuff is all fixed.... maybe. We get rain so rarely, it is hard to check whether the roofer got it right this time.... he is pulling his hair out on the call-backs. Too bad for these guests they had to endure the rainy weather, but we love it, it's cause for celebration! Cleaning was corrected easily.... I tend to see the scenery rather than the window or the dust on the sill..... but when you are stuck inside during rainy weather, I imagine your focus changes.....I've checked the door hardware, it's fine, some folks don't know how to deal with a 70's privacy latch, I've posted operating instructions, like the shower. We usually save the water during shower warm-up for the landscaping, (unless it is raining) I believed I removed the hot tub as an amenity when it got broken, it is being fixed now and will go back up for some lucky guest. (and not by the roofer) Refrigerator works fine for me, I don't get that complaint. Checkout is easy, just go when convenient, I don't hover.

The host made us feel welcome. The neighborhood was lovely. It is in an older section of west Tucson in the Tucson Mountains. It was quiet. The house is rustic. The road is best traveled using a high clearance vehicle. The house was decorated with lovely paintings by the host. The night lights of Tucson were nice to see. The sun rises and sun sets were lovely to observe.

Wow! What a wonderful place Bruce and Mary have created here. My daughter and I came to Tucson to hike and explore Suguaro National Park. Just a 30 minute drive away from this beautiful, comfortable amazing accommodation. The grounds are lovely and private. The house cozy and beautifully decorated. We marveled at all the fantastic art and sculpture that is displayed throughout and found something new to enjoy every day. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Bruce was a wonderful host very laid back; unfortunately we didn't get to meet Mary but maybe . . . next visit

Bruce welcomed us to his home and was very warm and helpful. He had a map drawn up and a list of things to do in the area. We had a wonderful 10 days at his place. It was at the end of a desert road so it was private and a beautiful view especially at night when Tucson was all lit up. He had a hot/cool tub on the deck which was an added bonus. He also recycled which was a plus for us. Thank you.

Breathtaking view of Tucson from the foothills of the mountains... Bruce meet us at the house on the day that we arrived. He gave us a tour of the property and told us of good local food spots in the area... The house needs a little TLC here and there.. Over all I l♡ve this piece of paradise... I will definitely be back to stay again.... thanks for the hospitality Bruce!

Amazing desert sanctuary! The house is filled with beautiful art and the property is large with alot of native vegetation. The sunsets and sunrises were surreal. We were able to drive to Tucson quickly with ease but still had a secluded feel. Mary was very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommended this property :-)

My name is Mary and I am from Oregon although was in Tucson when I was younger. I am here now and taking care of my dads property out west. It's a lovely place to be! We are both artists and the house is outfitted with mostly his and some of my art that I've made while I've been here. I love backpacking and hiking and while I have the house do 5-10 miles a day on Sweetwater nature preserve and through the open washes around us. I also love music and frequent downtown for shows. I travel around the US in my VW van in my free time. When in Portland I work for a small homestead farm and do landscaping for residential houses. My dad Bruce manages the place when I'm out of town.
