Anton was kind but unwelcoming in his house. The bed was not ready and the living room was very cluttered with boxes everywhere, very dirty showers and the sauna was not working. The house is already occupied by other people which is not mentioned in the description. I had to sle…

Looks like the doorbell had run out of battery, I apologize for that (it has a specialized battery which works for five years, I have now ordered a new battery). Even though the guest hadn't specified what time he would arrive, I was home and waiting, ready to answer the phone, messages on AirBNB or a knock on the door. The guest did neither of that (maybe did not have a working phone with him?) but at least found someone in front of the house to call me and I opened the door within seconds. The room had some cardboard boxes in it at the time and I apologize for that, but that was in the other side of the room and not where the sleeping area was, so they were not in the way of staying and sleeping there. As the guest arrived at 14.00, I asked if he wanted the bed to be made ready immediately in case he wanted to go to sleep right away or would it be OK, if I make it ready by the evening. The guest said later in the evening was fine, so I am surprised that he now says that the bed was not ready. I specifically asked and he declined, so I don't understand. In either case, I brought everything needed for the bed within five minutes. However there was also a clear language barrier, as it seemed the guest did not understand at least half of what I was saying, so maybe that explains some of the confusion. Neither had the guest read the house rules beforehand, where it clearly stated, that in Estonia you should leave your outdoor boots by the front door when you come int. Instead, the guest tried to march right into the living room in his snowy and wet boots. Luckily I was able to quickly ask him to take off the boots, but only later did I discover, that for some reason the guest decided to put his trolley bag with wheels on my carpet to dry after arrival. As the weather outside was wet with snow and mud, and the trolley bag had been pulled through the streets on its wheels, the underside of the bag was all covered with dirt and snow. Out of all the places, the clean carpet was the worst possible place to put a wet and dirty bag, dripping with snow and mud. Unfortunately I discovered this only a few hours later. By then the damage was done and the carpet had been ruined. I have been trying to clean it with warm water, soap, soda, a sponge and a heavy-duty steamer, but the dirt from the street is already deep inside the carpet, clearly visible but impossible to remove. As for the smell, I was cooking lunch in the kitchen at the time of his arrrival, as I also live in the apartment. I am sorry, if the guest found the smell from the kitchen not to his liking. As for the shower, the listing clearly states that this is not a dirt problem, but the water in Tartu has a very high calcium level and leaves white markes everywhere even after first use. As for the steam sauna, it was completely working and functional, but needs to be turned on first from a switch. The fact that the guest did not know how the sauna works, does not mean it didn't work - it only means that the guest never asked how it works. If the guest wanted to use the sauna, he should have asked and I would have turned it on. Instead he didn't ask anything and now claims it did not work, which is not true. The listing also clearly states, that I live with a flatmate, but it is already clear, that the guest never bothered to read neither the listing description nor the house rules (or simply did not understand them because of his poor English skills). Later in the evening, the guest came back with a translator who said that the guest had initially wanted to stay someplace else for free but it was not possible at the time so he had booked a room in my apartment. However he had now found out, that he could stay there for free anyway so now he wanted to get a refund. As it was already past 8PM in the evening, I said it was a bit too late to change your mind and ask for a refund just because you found a free place to stay instead. He said OK and left, while I was left with cleaning the carpet after he left dirt all over it. Can't really say it was the best hosting experience, but I guess that goes with the territory.

Thanks for staying and for constructive feedback! I personally find the full size mattresses more comfortable than the portable beds but there is also a way to combine both by putting the mattresses on top of the beds for more comfort. I apologize for the temperature - there is an extra radiator right next to the bed which can be plugged in, can be controlled with a remote control and can keep the room temperature at a comfortable level. However if the curtains are drawn, maybe it is not visible from behind the curtains. I wish the guest could have asked about the temperature as then I could have mentioned the radiator right next to the bed, but I should probably also add that info into the house manual. I have been away myself for a few weeks and have asked my flatmate to do some cleaning from time to time, but I apologize for the bathroom. For full apartment rentals I order a special cleaning service beforehand, but for single room rentals that is not always possible, as the cleaning fee itself would be up to many times higher high than the current rental price, in which case I would also have to increase the rental price by 2-3 times. However when I am not travelling, I do the cleaning myself, thus keeping the rentals affordable also for those, who only want to stay in one room for one night. Thanks for staying!
