Descrizione

A stone built house constructed by the Edinburgh Cooperative Building Society in the 1890s. A brilliant location close to the City Centre but with lots of local interest too down in Leith. An ideal place for a short stay with family and friends.

We have lived in our house since 1991. It was built in the 1890s and we own the ground and garden floors. Our upstairs neighbours are good friends. The house has a bright and comfortable living room at the front and 2 decent sized bedrooms with double beds overlooking our spacious back garden. Downstairs there is a recently modernised bathroom (including shower), a further bedroom with double bed and a comfortable kitchen/dining room which overlooks our garden. This includes a gas hob/oven, washing machine and dishwasher. There is a further room to the rear of the garden level which includes 2 fold down bed settees. There is another bed settee in the living room. There is gas central heating and hot water throughout the house. There is also free wi-fi and TV/DVD/various music players throughout the house.
We are located in Leith which has a wide range of pubs and restaurants with great character as well the Ocean Terminal shopping centre which is also the berth of the Royal Yacht Brittania. Edinburgh has excellent and reasonably priced buses and you can take very regular services to the City Centre from just around the corner. It is a 15 minute ride (or 30 minute walk) to the City Centre with its many attractions - museums, art galleries, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, Arthur's Seat, Scottish Parliament - all are within walking distance of our house. In December and January the city is alive with special events including its famous Winter Festival and the New Year celebrations of Edinburgh's Hogmanay complete with rock concerts and firework displays.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR SHORTER STAYS OF LESS THAN A WEEK THERE WILL BE A CLEANING FEE OF £60.
**ALTHOUGH WE GENERALLY RENT OUR HOUSE WHILST WE ARE AWAY - WE MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER A ROOM TO AN INDIVIDUAL OR COUPLE ON A BED & BREAKFAST BASIS IF PEOPLE ARE HAPPY TO SHARE FACILITIES - PLEASE CONTACT US TO DISCUSS.

Large back garden. Shower, bath etc. Washing machine. Dishwasher. TVs in 2 rooms with Freeview. Free Wi-Fi. CD player, 2 docking systems for iPods and a Brennan. Welcome to borrow my bicycle (only 1). Clean bed linen, towels etc. Light breakfast available (milk, OJ, cereal, bagels).

We usually only rent when we are on holiday. We will organise for a friend to introduce folk to the house on arrival and to clean if more than one set of visitors whilst we are away. We will contact you before you come and would really welcome any feedback you have for us.

We live in a quiet residential corner of Leith which nevertheless is very close to major bus routes. We are close to a large open space park, Leith Links and tot he historic and redeveloping area around the Shore. The Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre which includes a cinema complex and gym as well as shops and the Brittania is nearby.

Number 25 bus takes 20 minutes to the City Centre. I think you get about 5 or 6 of these buses an hour. A Day Saver ticket (£3.50) gives you unlimited journeys in a day and is great value. Get the bus to the top of Leith Walk and change at York Place for Edinburgh's new trams which run direct to the airport or to Waverley Station for trains around the country. Alternatively walk for 30-40 minutes directly up Easter Road and over Abbeyhill to arrive at the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Palace and the Queen's Park with the magnificent Arthur's Seat and the Radical Road winding under the basalt cliffs of Salisbury Crags. (A number 35 bus follows the same route in about half the time).
