The Chalet is in Chatham and it is a post-and-beam, timberframe home, situated on a seventeen-acre plot, surrounded by other wooded properties, in the rolling foothills of the Berkshire range in Columbia County, New York.
The contemporary appearance of the exterior is finished in rough cedar siding, stained an earthy taupe and, along with the cedar shake roof, blends into its surroundings. Upon entering, the dramatic beam structure of the house is visible. The few artworks displayed on the wall serve to accentuate the architecture and materials of the home.
The Chalet is a spacious, 3-bedroom 2 bathrooms one with dual sinks, granite countertops located between two bedrooms and the other is located in the Master bedroom. There is an attached two-car garage. A cathedral ceiling runs the length of the structure with numerous skylights, and a stone fireplace fifteen feet wide and two stories tall dominates the main living area. The gourmet kitchen, fitted with KitchenAid appliances, flows into the dining area and living room complete with Italian ceramic tiles and wide-board pine flooring. There is a separate laundry/pantry and a full basement. For those who may be so inclined, there is a large Steinway upright in the house for your pleasure.
The village of Chatham and the surrounding area afford many amenities and activities. Several ski areas are within 30 minutes away, including Catamount, Jiminy Peak and Brodie. There are fine restaurants for every budget; boutiques, antique shops and wine stores in the village as well as the landmark Crandell Theater, home to the Columbia County Film Festival. Fall activities include the Columbia County Fair, and places to pick apples and pumpkins. The Chalet is located eighteen miles due west of Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony and one of the most famous music festivals in the world. There are many other concert opportunities including the Leaf Peepers series and Tannery Pond Concerts. Tennis and golf, horseback riding and miles of hiking trails are within easy reach.

The location of this home was great for us. We made trips to FDR's and Eleanor Roosevelt's homes in Hyde Park, Tanglewood and the Wiliamstown Theater Festival. The kitchen is very well-equipped. Comfy bed and nice master bathroom. There's also quite a bit of good hiking nearby. We'd recommend the short 2-mile hike up "Beebe Hill". The 360 degree view is spectacular.
We had a really nice time at Magaly's. The home is beautiful, much nicer than the photographs! It's very secluded and private. Though right by the Taconic, it felt worlds away from everything.
My wife and I had the master bedroom with our infant son. Our 2 friends were in the bedrooms on the other side of the house and never heard our little guy cry.
We were in town for a wedding that kept us out for most of our time. It would've been very nice to cook elaborate meals and laze about before the giant, gorgeous fireplace. I bet you can also see the stars though the skylights that are in every room!
The long, steep, gravel driveway is certainly an adventure to drive up, but our little Nissan Versa made it with no problem!
Though we didn't need much of anything, Magaly made herself available via text/ phone. Thanks Magaly!!
Magaly was very responsive and her home was delightful.
She was very open to early arrival and late departure.
Very quiet and secluded among the trees.
Magaly was very friendly and helpful and the cabin was great! Plenty of space and comfortable.
We rented out the chalet for the weekend for our 1 year anniversary & to attend a wedding. We were amazed when we got there. The pictures really don't do it justice. The beautiful ceilings, fireplace, master bedroom.. It was unbelievable for the price. We were looking for a reasonably priced place to stay that would allow our dogs. We found a motel, that looked very sketchy for the same as this chalet for the weekend and we made the right choice. Our dogs were in heaven, and for those of you with dogs, the best part for us was that the dogs ran in and out of the woods with not a single tick found on them! Magaly as such a sweet host, and always only a text message away. She even left maps, things to do, and gave ideas of great breakfast places! We most definitely will be recommending this place to anyone we know going out that way, and hope to be able to stay here again!
We had the pleasure of visiting Magaly's beautiful chalet over Memorial Day weekend 2015. Our group included two 30-something couples and two dogs. A lovely time was had by all!
The home is a very convenient drive off the Teconic but feels a million miles away. There are no homes or even streets in sight from inside the house, all you see in any direction (including up! Every room has a skylight) is a beautiful forest.
The living room has an incredible wood beamed and vaulted ceiling and cozy couches. The kitchen is very nice and we made good use of the new grill outside. All of the beds were comfortable and we appreciated that they were already made up for us when we arrived.
Downtown Hudson and Chatham are both quite close and we had fun exploring the towns on foot with our dogs.
Magaly was a wonderful host, and made herself available by text if we had any questions over the course of the weekend. Overall, a great experience!
Wonderful post and beam construction home. Accommodations were comfortable and welcoming. Location is perfect for visitors ready to explore the surrounding Berkshire attractions. Biggest surprise were the wonderful area eateries. Nearby Hudson and Catskill are a foodies dream!! Thanks Magely.

A proposito dell'host, Magaly
Hey! I’m Magaly. I started hosting international students 8 years ago and enjoyed the experience so much I began renting out other family-owned properties. When I’m not spending time with my husband and three daughters (or working), I like salsa dancing. I’ve lived in the New York City area since childhood and am delighted to share what I know about being a local and how to experience this incredible city. Renting/hosting travelers has enriched my life and I want to continue providing affordable residential accommodations from homestays and apartment shares to private rooms and vacation rentals.
