Il quartiere

Olney is a quiet suburb of Washington DC but has its own amenities: The Olney Theater offers a range of professional productions, a weekly tour of the Underground Railroad is near by, and several restaurants are available. You will want to have a car, but the neighborhood has nearby parks and areas for walking. Lots of antiquing opportunities close by.

Un giro nei dintorni

You need a car to get here, however if you want to spend the day doing tourist things in Washington DC, the metro is about 20 minutes away and has plenty of parking.

The hosts are very welcoming and knowledgeable about places to go and eat. Most impressive to me, was the history behind the house and the historical figures within it. The hosts are especially knowledgeable in these topics, and if learning about world-changing people (such as FDR and his Secretary of Interior, Harold Ickes) is of interest to you, Nancy and Sue will share with you the rich history of their home and its pertinence to history. I chose to stay here for a business trip in Olney, and am excited to come back next time.

We were met by Sue as we pulled in to the tree-lined driveway of the property. She welcomed us warmly, and gave us a tour of the property, noting its unique role in American history (former home of Interior Secretary Harold Ickes in FDR Administration) and features that make it an exceptional place to stay as a guest. Our accommodations in two different rooms were comfortable in every way, with attention to detail in period decor combined with amenities that gave you the feeling of being a guest in a (very nice) home. If we had more time and it was August instead of late September, we would have spent some time in the spacious back yard, which has a hot tub and pool. Sue and Nancy are warm, engaging and thoughtful hosts who make any visit to their beautiful property an experience in and of itself, and we are eager to return.

This airbnb was a memorable experience. Too bad I got in late and had only one brief night to enjoy that gorgeous house and my interesting hosts. Look forward to another visit, however, for a swim in the lovely pool and some down time in that well stocked Library!

Sue and Nancy are wonderful hosts and have such a beautiful and interesting house! My wife and I decided to take a short Valentine's day weekend getaway, and we felt right at home the entire time. This is a true bed and breakfast, with a delicious breakfast provided by Sue and Nancy the next day. We must have spent 2-3 hours at breakfast conversing with other guests and enjoying the experience of it all. And the house itself...wow! Talk about interesting. FDR used to frequent the house, and yes, he did indeed sleep in the aptly named FDR Bedroom, where we were lucky enough to stay. As a history buff, this was very cool. The room has changed very little since FDR stayed there on days he needed a quick getaway. There is much more history that Sue and Nancy will gladly tell you about on your stay. We loved it and recommend it to anyone!

I am a hospice nurse, data analyst, and real estate investor. Nancy, my partner in life and real estate, and I work from home, which gives us a lot of flexibility for various check-in times and special needs that our guests may have.

My mother owned and operated a B&B for many years, even before most people knew what a B&B was. I inherited her yen for different kinds of housing opportunities.

In 2003, Nancy and I opened Brindledorf, a cooperative living community, where the motto is "Live Outside the Box". Our residents have included teachers, police officers, scientists, clinicians, artists, political aides, grad students, and a film producer. Turnover has been very low.

In addition to managing Brindledorf, Nancy works in community theater as a set dresser, props manager and occasional actor. You never know what props in progress you may find in our living room.

Our first few months of Airbnb have been so positive, we have decided to move a little closer in, to a house that is a little larger. Beginning January 2016 we will be offering space that is a shorter walk to the metro, in a neighborhood that has larger yards. Two large suites on separate floors will have wood burning fireplaces, private bathrooms, and lots of natural light. Because we believe strongly that having on-site hosting is a key element in the B&B experience, we will convert the Bradford Rd residence to a traditional rental home.
