Cosa farete

We meet in Maury, at the footlhills of the Pyrenees where winemakers are rewarded with producing wines in some of the toughest terrain, in a valley with steep peaks of mountains and chateaus surrounding the village.

A private tour of Res Fortes' own vineyards follows, the highest North facing sloped vineyard in Maury with Grenache vines over 120 years old. We walk between the vines and discover how the area and land influences the growth of the grapes and tastes of the wines. Witness the almond trees, lavender, rosemary and thyme growing wild in the soils surrounding the vineyards.

Lola, the Border Collie puppy - our chief vineyard inspector may make an appearance, if you are comfortable with dogs!

We then head over to the winery for a tasting and tour of the cave where the grapes go from fruit to wine. More in depth knowledge about the wine making process, and a tasting session round out the tour.

Next to the winery is a beautiful restaurant where we can arrange an optional 3 course lunch.
Other things to note
Families and children are welcome to join on the tour, to taste wine guests must be of drinking age.

Moritz and Jocelyn have both been long time wine enthusiasts, and live full time in Maury nurturing vineyards, and producing wines.

Childhood summers with his wine-loving grandfather in the South of France, Moritz Bak’s fascination with the world of wine began. Devoting himself to the study of wine and winemaking, he worked at some of the world’s greatest vineyards, and when he was ready returned to the south of France armed with both knowledge and a vision. Having carefully selected his vines, he produced his first vintage in 2014. Acclaim and awards soon followed.

Jocelyn has lived a similar wanderlust lifestyle, sailing across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South Pacific and African Cape working as both a Captain and Chef, she decided to settle in Maury and continue exploring the world of food and wine on hard ground!

We then head over to the winery. Here you can understand how the grapes are processed and the different steps taken to produce different wines - White, Red and Rose. And then the best part of course, we taste!

This vineyard tour was absolutely one of the highlights of my trip to the Roussillon region! Jocelyn was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the area, as well as the winemaking process from soil to bottle. After a short car ride, we had a relaxing morning of exploring the hilly vineyards of Res Fortes on foot, where we learned about the different varietals developed in the area and what made them especially suited to the local growing conditions. Afterward, we headed to where the magic happens - where the wine is actually made! Jocelyn took us through that process in fantastic detail, and we sampled many lovely wines throughout the aging process from just beginning to ready-to-bottle! We also ran into Moritz, Res Fortes’ head winemaker, who welcomed us and graciously sat down to answer any and all questions we had. His passion for wine and the region was abundantly clear, especially seen when answering questions about his meticulous thought process when deciding on the blending strategy for the brand’s most popular wines. A little over two hours later, I walked away with a significantly deeper understanding of the winemaking process, and getting a true local’s perspective was particularly insightful. Jocelyn (and Moritz!) were both so wonderful to spend time with, and I can’t recommend this experience enough!
