This tour will bring to light some fascinating insights into some of the most prominent and also overlooked sculptures in the city. Thousands of Dubliner's walk by our monuments everyday without ever knowing, why they're there, what they mean or even, who the people are. The tour will start with one of the famous, Molly Malone to discuss the true and not so true stories surrounding her life and times. On to College Green, we will see the 18th century Irish Parliament under Henry Grattan and two sculptures, quite literally, in opposition to one another. Here, we can discuss the unusual proportions of Thomas Davis and why he replaced King William III. View the masterpiece of John Henry Foley as we move to O'Connell St and see Daniel O'Connell and discover why our capital street is named after "The Liberator". Into the 20th century, we will see the outstretched arms of 'Big Jim' Larkin and the first of many, Bloody Sundays, before walking to the GPO the setting for the Easter Rising in 1916. See our mythological hero Cú Chulainn in the window and discover his journey from ancient warrior to nationalist icon. Finally, we will turn to modern Dublin and the controversial, Millennium Spire of light; before finishing at the Garden of Remembrance, where Queen Elizabeth II laid a wreath in 2011 to remember all those who fought for Irish independence from British rule.
