Cosa farete

This walking tour led by Captain Bryan is not your average "sit there and shut up" tour where the guide won't even remember your name. Rather, after brief introduction, Captain Bryan will lead you on a historic journey of how Shem Creek came to prominence with its famous shrimping fleet and much more. Unlike any other tour in the area, guest have the ability to see the industry at work. Guest will start with some underlying history of the area in Old Village. Perhaps the group will meet Mr. Rector at Geechie Seafood with his several shrimp boats, beautiful reminders of the bountiful harvest to be conducted offshore. Furthermore, sample some of the key lime pie made by the family of Mrs. Fitch who is the owner of Mt. Pleasant seafood or try your hand cast netting or tossing a crab line. This is not a tour, it is an experience to immerse yourself in a culture that is truly intrinsic to the area. Take back history, culture, language, snacks, but most of all guests will take from this experience an underlying appreciation for our local shrimpers and the history behind these hard working men and women. As Captain Bryan says, " Live the Local Life" and this experience is the perfect opportunity to do so.

We totally enjoyed our time with Bryan. He is knowledgeable and an enthusiastic story teller. His love of the area and the subject-Shrimp and sustainability is contagious. We will never think about shrimp and where and how it is procured in the same way again.

Bryan's Shem Creek Tour was a great conduit to learning about the vitality of the Lowcountry shrimping industry. In addition to connecting the tour to the history of Shem Creek, Bryan went in-depth regarding the socioeconomic and environmental impacts that have changed the region. He created an interactive and welcoming environment, allowing tour participants to cast a net and even entering a local bait and catch shop for some OUTSTANDING key lime pie (and I am a connoisseur). Overall, I think Bryan put a whole hell of a lot of work, time, and energy to think about the small details and make the most out of the two hours spent with him. His ability to tailor the tour to our unique interests (be it history, environmentalism, food, etc.) was a great indicator of his dynamic attitude. I wish him nothing but the best. He even sent a comprehensive list of other places and things to see and do while in the Lowcountry. Please do yourself a favor and book this tour! You will not be disappointed!
