It will be an approx. 4km visit to a mysterious islet with an abandoned settlement which had been a place of deportation for many years. Moving around the ruins of the past and listening to what happened there ...you will get the feeling that you are not entirely alone. The islet that is located approximately 1200 m. from Corfus’ old post. Nowadays it has no permanent residents but during the summer months it has a frequent boat connection from the old port and up to the islet, so visitors can enjoy a day trip into this lovely green place. It served for centuries as a military base, a place of detention, an outdoor prison and a shelter where ill people were deported to prevent epidemics. The islet was an important contribution to the defense of Corfu, as it was surrounded by fortifications since the middle 19th century. During the WW1, it served as an island hospital, quarantine and place of death for fatally ill soldiers. Later it served as a reformatory. Since 1980s the islet changed completely and now is used only for good!!!

Dove ti troverai
Not many people know the story of this little islet, which begins around the 4th century AD. During Roman times it housed one of the first Christian settlements in Corfu, and during the Middle Ages it was a private property. It served for centuries as a military base, a place of deportation and as an outdoor prison. Besides its sad story, it is now a beautiful place where people can enjoy a walk in nature as well as the nice view of Corfu Town
