This casual midweek tour is a rustic gem of a bike ride in the middle Philadelphia. We'll meet in the easy-to-access museum district and begin a journey that rolls slowly away from town along a hidden river. We'll leave the skyline behind and traverse the first of 3 or 4 bends along a route tailor-made for both sight-seeing and people watching that's also almost completely flat. And we never worry about cars because our path is at times a dedicated sidewalk or a smooth tarmac trail etched into broad grassy lawns along the river banks. Our eyes and ears are drawn to the sights and sounds along this route loved by all Philadelphians: bikers, runners, joggers, dog walkers, kids, and power-walking seniors. We'll glide past bridges, a waterfall, statues, sculpture, gardens, boathouses, murals, collegiate rowing teams- you may even hear a coxswain urging rowers onward. At the midway point, just as we've gotten used to the solitude and the easy peddling, we roll up on a quaint Philly neighborhood (yes, we're still in Philly!), where there's a selection of restaurants, snacks, and supplies. Grab a slice at a charming pizza shop or experience an iconic regional artisanal bakery & sandwich shop. We can pause here, but we're still on our tour. We'll then cross a secluded steel truss bridge, view more river scenery, a waterfall, the city skyline and return to where we started.
Il tuo host
My tour is a low-exertion bike tour built on a path that many Philadelphians use for in a central city getaway, for picnics and group gatherings, for working out, for commuting on foot, and for sightseeing, even for marathon training, as I did back in the 90s. What makes me an ideal guide for this tour, in addition to my 20+ years living in and loving this area, are my years spent in the hospitality and event business. I've worked in a variety of family-friendly restaurants and country clubs, and hotels and have learned how to be a considerate host. As an artist, I also offer my unique perspective, eye for detail and aesthetic appreciation of my surroundings.
