Meeting at 15.30 p.m., we'll walk to the community’s local museum to get to know the Thai-Chinese history and the local way of life. To understand the Chinese tradition better, we'll walk along the small hidden alleys to visit the local joss paper shop to learn how to fold the papers. Are you confused why we have to learn how to fold them? Because joss papers are one of the important Chinese traditions. Joss papers are used as "ghost money" for their ancestors as a veneration of the deceased family members and relatives on holidays and special occasions. Also, folding joss papers in a beautiful and delicate shape is one example of Chinese arts & crafts. The workshop will be exclusively for you since the shop is owned by my relative :) You'll also have a chance to try Chinese snacks during the class! After the workshop, we'll move to Wat Mangkon Temple, which is the sacred Chinese temple for the locals in the community. You'll see many people paying respect with the incense sticks and joss papers! Last but not least, we'll visit a local's home, which is the main producer of vegetarian ingredients in Bangkok Chinatown. The special product is “imitation meat” which is made from wheat gluten. You'll cook your own Chinese vegetarian dish and the owner's mother will teach you closely! When we finish our dinner together with the local family, I'll send you back to MRT Station.

Her family has owned businesses right in the heart of the Chinatown (Phahurat & Sampeng market). In her childhood, she often went to Chinatown with her family to buy some goods and pray at the Chinese temple for religious holidays. When she got married, her husband also has a business of selling joss papers near Wat Mangkon temple. Therefore, her whole life has been absolutely bounded with Chinatown.
